A composting toilet was the best upgrade I ever made in my RV, and I know that I'll never have another RV or van without one.Â
I've tried several out, and here's what I learned.
Composting toilets that are made for RVs and camper vans work in a very specific way: they separate liquids (urine) from solids (#2's). By diverting liquids away from solids, these toilets prevent sewage from forming. The end result is an odorless, eco-friendly compost waste product that you can dump anywhere!
Great for camper vans. This composting toilet looks high-end and separates liquids and solids with a sleek and easy user experience. This option is great for tiny spaces.
This toilet is great for camper van conversions on a budget. It looks similar to the Separett and has a slightly similar function, but is much lower priced.
Best composting toilet overall - specifically for RVs. This is like the king of composting toilets, and it requires more space for installation. Automatic flap opening, bin rotation, and more! Luxurious!
This is one of the most popular composting toilets by far and was my first foray into the world of these toilets. It's good for RVs and vans, but has a learning curve and can be uncomfy.
The Air Head composting toilet and Nature's Head are similar, but the Air Head wins in my book every time. It's more comfortable, more user friendly, easier to empty, less odor, and looks nicer.
This is a great toilet for small spaces, especially camper van conversions.Â
I highly recommend it, but also give a disclaimer that it's a glorified bucket-in-a-box toilet.Â
However, it works well and customers love it.
Once you understand how they work and how they're made, you can easily make your own DIY composting toilet for hundreds of dollars less than buying one!
